Birthday Surprise!

So, today as I was getting some more packing done to go home on Sunday, I remember that one of my friends is going to have a birthday while I'm gone! I wasn't quite sure if I could get something done before I leave but man I was going to try! Maha has been so sweet to me, I couldn't let her birthday pass with out a present!

I ran to Hobby Lobby and picked up the blue paisley and the green checked fabric. Then after searching for wooden handles, the clerk notified me that they no longer carry wooden handles...sigh...I did however pick up this book by Clare Youngs, which gave me an idea...

Off to the Salvation Army Store...searching through bags and bags trying to find a purse with wooden handles! No luck...BUT....they did have one with BAMBOO handles...this will work...I think....

Back home and took some quick pics of the raw materials...

A few snips and off came the handles! Then I sew up my bag, then I rip parts of it out...

Finally...Ta-Da!!!! My second ever bag. I think it looks pretty good. Just don't look at the seams...

I should have made one for me too!

Short one!

Ok so I know I've been a bad blogger as of late, forgive me?? I've had some family woes that require me to take two weeks off work (to go see my mom) and arranging that hasn't been super easy. Not to mention trying to get stuff ready for Ben to be stuck at home without me for two weeks!

I passed my bean bags off to Valerie so she could finish them up for me. I still have some squares to cut and mail for my I spy swap. Then there's dishes and laundry and cat box cleaning, and more laundry, and bills to pay and indeed more laundry. So I will likely be on hiatus from now until the 2nd of May. I'm taking some projects with me, one that's extremely close to completion. Should I finish it, you might get to see a picture of it :)

I hope all (three) of you are still following me upon my return to the blog-o-sphere.

Happy Tuesday :)

Pick a Pattern...

Long time no see! Not that I ever see you, but oh well. I'm busy turning my bean bags right side out. Only R-Z to go! Then I have to fill them and stitch up the hole. I'm thinking that needs to be done on my machine because I don't think any of my hand sewn seams will hold up to being thrown around by a 5 year old. I also made a little draw string bag for them to go in. Its not great, but considering its my first bag ever, I think I did a darn good job. (Just don't look at the sides!)

I also decided that one of my friends at work needs a new bag to carry stuff in. I then proceed to Joann to get a pattern or two. As it turns out, the Simplicity patterns were on sale for .99 Cents! So I got my bag pattern (not a simplicity pattern, but it was my favorite, so I got it). Then I think, I'll just look and see what else I can find. Well, to make a long story short, I bought 7 more simplicity patterns. My total savings: $113! :)

Bean Bag Frenzy!

I have recently been introduced to Craft Hope (link on my side bar <----). They posted a new project today, and I've already started cutting!

They are making bean bags of colors, shapes, numbers and letters to send to Liberia! Please read their post for more of the requirements!

I'm taking 5.5 inch squares and embroider them (with my machine, no way I'm doing that by hand) with letters, sew two 5.5 squares right sides together (one plain, one with a letter) leaving a small opening to stuff with some non-food-bean-like substance (suggestions??) Hope you'll join me in helping!

Well, scratch plan one. My machine does not like to embroider the alphabet on my 5.5 inch squares. So I ran to hobby lobby and picked up some iron on transfers, which I will iron, then sew, they look better than mine would have any way...I hope this is still considered "hand made"...
